Armory Square has played a major part in the rebirth of downtown. Beginning in the 1800's Armory Square was a mixed use of retail, commercial, industrial and housing. All of this declined during the next century.
It wasn't until the 1970's that a rebirth of downtown began. Over the years to come Armory Square has become an interesting mixed use of office space, retail stores, a nightlife including bars and some of Syracuse's finest restaurants. Of course with all these characteristics in one central district there has become a desire to live downtown.
The residential market is growing rapidly with opportunities to both rent and own. Currently there are over 100 residential units in Armory Square and there are currently development projects which will bring even more housing.
There are a multiple buildings throughout Armory Square with residential on the upper floors. From the borders of Armory Square you have the newly renovated apartments above Provision's to the high end apartments above the Landmark Theatre. Then there's the condo's at Center Armory and across the street the Loft style apartment's above Ambrosia.
Even the new development is promising for people wanting to live the urban life. You have The Butler building, above Awful Al's, being renovated into loft apartments and high end luxury apartments going in at the building on the corner of Walton and Franklin.
With everything that's happening downtown these days, Armory Square is the only place to live.
